Marcia K. Thompson, Esq.
Marcia K. Thompson is a civil rights attorney, professor, and former global executive with human resources experience who created and lead Amazon’s Community Innovation team, a diversity, equity + inclusion (DEI) professional, data innovation professional, human-centered design expert, international trainer, criminal justice consultant and public speaker. She's a collaborative problem solver, change management, human resources, and equal employment opportunity (EEO)/ civil rights professional. Marcia has been an ADR practitioner and mediator for over 20 years and received certification from the Supreme Court of Virginia and has an ASTD coaching certificate.
She is an experienced large group facilitator. She has worked with national and international corporations, state, local and federal government agencies to help teach, coach, and create more equitable workplace environments that enhance relationships built on trust and mutual respect internally and externally with community stakeholders. She uses systems thinking mechanisms and data to elevate key voices in work spaces and the community to impact policy, procedures, and processes that are measurable.
She has worked to help people address and improve use of diverse, inclusive and equitable practices, through leadership introspection, communication plans, transparency practices, building cultural competency, strategic change management mechanisms, team building, employee engagement, and addressing workplace conflict. She has provided executive level consulting, neutral fact finding, investigations, training, facilitation and mediations for over 20 years.
She has a combination of DEI expertise, legal, human resources, public speaking and facilitation experience that has benefited her clients and their employees. She has used these skills to create roadmaps/frameworks for equity, and help organizations communicate pre/post crisis, discuss trauma/healing practices at work, advise on complex organizational development, change and employee concerns, coach/train executives to make better decisions and become better leaders. She has a passion for working with people; creating options; and a skillset for problem-solving.
Marcia served as a corporate Chief Diversity Equity + Inclusion Officer, Ombudsman and a Hearing Officer for a division within the Department of Justice. Marcia has experience in law enforcement, national security intelligence, conducting reviews, assessments, technical assistance, training and developing curriculum. She has been a member of international committees, and boards.
