About This Course
This CLE course focuses on the often-overlooked yet critical aspect of criminal defense practice: preparing for sentencing. While sentencing is a frequent occurrence—highlighted by a 2018 PEW Research Center Report showing that 90% of federal criminal cases ended in guilty pleas—there are few CLE programs dedicated to this phase of representation.
This course emphasizes the importance of presenting your client as an individual with a unique life story, beyond the charges they face. Through practical strategies, participants will learn how to humanize their clients, highlighting mitigating factors and uncovering the often-overlooked positive aspects of their lives to advocate effectively during sentencing.
