About This Course
Anyone who has seen A Few Good Men has been intrigued by the concepts of military justice. This innovative CLE course, geared toward civilian practitioners who are interested in military courts or want to expand into military defense, will offer a comprehensive overview of the military justice system.
The course will present an overview of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (“UCMJ”), the cultural differences between the civilian and military systems, the rights of the accused in the military, and the many nuances of the practice of court-martial.
The course will also explain the various types of offenses that are punishable under the UCMJ, the basis for military jurisdiction and how crimes in the military are investigated. The course will conclude with a review of the unique military sentencing and that of the appellate process.
