Infrastructure is critical to the success of urban development. Transit-oriented development takes this into account by developing a building or area around public transit infrastructure such as a Metro train station. When applied to suburban development, it includes a vast amount of coordination of land use including community outreach, walkable neighborhoods, economic development, suburban renewal and transportation planning.

This CLE course will explain the forces driving vibrant, livable, sustainable communities to increase demand for TOD and explain how it allows cities to use marketing forces to increase density near the transit infrastructure, where services are located to enhance the overall economic efficiency by eliminating sprawl.

The overall impact reduces car use, increases transit use thereby decreasing gross regional product on transportation.
