About This Course
Congress passed and President Trump signed into law an extension of the Ted Stevens Amateur Sports Act, called Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act, which dramatically changes how all sports organizations that are part of the United States Olympic Committee’s governing structure report and handle matters of sexual abuse, sexual misconduct, youth protection, youth exploitation and physical abuse. But the bill also has far ranging impact in establishing the U.S. Center for Safe Sport (SafeSport) as the investigatory and adjudicative body for allegations falling under this act for every National Governing Body (NGB) of every sport in the U.S. Olympic Movement and a portion of this course will outline the process SafeSport uses in both investigating and adjudicating complaints. Finally, this course will also delve into the additional reporting requirements imposed by this act on all other sports entities including K-12 schools, local sports organizations, and college and university athletic programs and how these sports entities may come in contact with the act’s provisions and SafeSport in varying ways.
